The construction on the famous Sistine
Chapel began in 1473. The Sistine Chapel is also the official papal chapel and it is used by the Sacred College of Cardinals to elect a new pope. The Sistine Chapel is famous for its frescoes, which were painted by many of the great Florentine artists of the Renaissance. These frescoes cover the entire interior including the barrel-vaulted ceiling. The great Michelangelo painted all the frescoes, which include an incredible image of the Last Judgement, The Creation of Light, The Creation of Stars and Planets, The Creation of Adam, The Fall and Expulsion from Paradise, The Flood, and The Drunkenness of Noah.
