You will leave the center of Rome and travel in one of our air-conditioned Mercedes Benz vehicles along the Italian coastline until we reach ancient Ostia about 30 minutes away. Along the way, you will truly enjoy the beauty that abounds everywhere you look. Ostia was at one time a very prosperous city at the mouth of the Tiber River, shortly after King Anco Marzio created the city in 42BC. The city was the center to many trades traveling up and down the Tiber River and then onward on their journey.

Today, you will enjoy viewing the Terme di Nettune where you can see the magnificent mosaics depicting Neptune and Amphitrite. The theatre and forum built by Agrippa are other venues that you must not miss. The Museo Ostiense will give you a taste of ancient sculptures and mosaics that were found among the ruins of this ancient city.

Another one of our Rome countryside tours will take you to Tivoli Gardens. This tour will take you on an hour drive from the center of Rome to a serene and lovely town of Tivoli home to the famous Villa d’Este and Villa Adriana. During Emperor Hadrian’s reign in the 2 century be established this breath taking city and created it from his memory of the various places he had traveled throughout Europe. Many considered the area to be a Garden of Eden. He hired architects and others to build this amazing city and create a water system that provided water to over 200 fountains. Today, you can still see a couple of fountains that have been restored to their splendor such as the Fontana dell’Organo.

The Villa Adriana was at that time Emperor Hadrian’s summer residence and the Villa d’Este was the palace home of Lucrezia Borgia’s son.
